WHAT WE DO

CTI BUILDS OPPORTUNITIES in LIVELIHOOD, EDUCATION & HEALTH

Health - physical, psycho-social

CTI believes in wholistic health - the total well-being of every person in every aspect - physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual. We partner with World Vision to run One Goal programme that uses sports to teach nutrition. The Drumkids and GoodKids (partner) program uses performing arts (drumming) to enhance confidence, self-esteem and self-discovery. We walk alongside families in crisis, those in need of medical or psycho-social assistance by referrals to professionals or direct assistance. We also seek to understand root issues which will help us plan for future preventive and advocacy programs.

PROGRAMS

Drum kids

Since 2012, over 80 children from the PPR community, have not only learnt drumming skills but also gained confidence and self-esteem as they now participate in the various community events.  This programme has continued on with five different batches of children till 2018.  They enjoy learning new rhythms, growing in confidence and learning to work together with children of different ethnic groups. In the last two years, they have also learned to work with people who are differently-abled, from Breakthru Enrichment Station and United Voice, a self-advocacy Society of persons with learning disabilities.

They have performed at AKPK’s Selfy Award Ceremony, and contributed to their own  PPR Community’s year end programs, the launch of The Batik Boutique-CTI Sewing Centre and Pusat Communiti CTI in 2018.

GoodKids

This is youth empowerment program using performing arts (bucket drums, acting etc), which caters for development of self-esteem, confidence and other soft skills that are essential to cultivate learning desire in youth. CTI works in collaboration with GoodKids Malaysia & Crescent Collective, with the support of Residents Association of PPR Kota Damansara and

ABIM (ADAB Youth Garage, AYG).  Our collaboration to bring it to PPR KD is a pilot community based project which we hope can continue to inspire others. This programme is funded by Crescent Collective through its fund raising efforts, and thankfully ADAB Youth Garage (AYG), which is part of Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia (ABIM) was willing to open up their space for this programme. The local Residents’ Association was also very supportive in sending their AJKs for training to work with us and GoodKids, so that we can continue with this programme for the community.

One Goal

This program is carried out in collaboration with World Vision and Resident’s Association of PPR Kota Damansara.

We connected the PPR Kota Damansara Residents’ Association with the World Vision One Goal team and facilitated the arrangements for the training of trainers. This programme aims to teach the children nutrition through learning to play football. The players are encouraged to “Eat Right to Play Right”!

“The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little.”
